Guided cycling tour for a small group without escort vehicle. We go legs of 30 to 70 km per day. Overnight accommodation: double rooms in simple hotels. An adventurous and somewhat ambitious tour. Approximately half of the route is tarred and there are some roads sloping upwards and downwards on our route. Fitness and steady mastery of your bike are required.

We witness crater lakes in the middle of town and thermal springs on the banks of the river Awash. Fertile land in all shades of color, abounding with fields of teff. After a few days we reach the Bale Mountains, an African-alpine landscape-marvelously green woods and an exotic wildlife that you cannot find anywhere else in the world.
Now follow 2-3 days of horse trekking. On horseback we travel from village to village and reach a height of 3,500 meters. The Bale Mountains offer spectacular views in one of the most fantastic regions of Ethiopia. We continue towards the Rift Valley. For us comes the end of the cool mountains-slowly it is getting warmer.
In Awasa, home town of our tour guide Kuratu Assefa, we get two days for resting and excursions without baggage (for example round Lake Awasa). Here again we arrive at a health resort with hot springs, in the middle of a tropical setting with coffee, bananas, avocados and guavas. At the shores of the Rift Valley lakes you can watch countless birds: kingfishers, pelicans, marabous and eagles… Also bathing is possible.
In the vicinity of Addis there are many sites of interest for archeologists, as the most southern rock-cut church in Ethiopia and the 800-year-old steles of Tiya. In all circa 800 km (except excursions during the break in Awasa). If you participate in all legs and excursions, you will cover about 930 km or an average of circa 55 km a day in 17 days of cycling.
